Mid-Week Minute - June 18th
Dear LSDA Family,
We are back! Yes, our family has returned today from vacation, and I am already back to work, aggressively hitting the renovation which needs to be done, and finding the right subcontractors to help us complete the work in a timely manner. We enjoyed our time with family and friends, across Illinois and Indiana, but there really is no place quite like home. You as a church family were missed as well!
While on vacation, I was impressed of what I was to preach next, and then I received an email form a member that affirmed where God was leading. This Sabbath I will be sharing part one of a two part sermon series, entitled; "Free to Rebuild". There is no new problem under the sun, and this sermon series will show how the Jewish people in the Old Testament can be seen in our reflections today. I hope you will prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what He may be saying and apply accordingly.
June 30th, at 6PM
, we will be having a business meeting to discuss three items of importance to our church and school family, and all intertwine with each other.
1) Present the strategic plan for review, which should be completed this weekend.
2) Renovation project and associated finances, including a refinance of our loan.
3) Forward Committee findings, tasked to determine the best future of the church location, and building program.
IN addition we will have two items for our school, which need to be addressed at business meeting to be placed into effect.
9:30A - Prayer Circles
(we need the prayer together, let's join in on this time!)
10:00A - Connect Groups
11:00A - Worship Service (Part 1 of 2, "Free to Rebuild)
Please note: if you are a connect group leader, please be present by 9:45A
Our capital campaign is in full swing, and the school board has voted to increase the fundraising cap to $175,000 in order to raise funds to renovate the entire school facility, a far greater plan than originally anticipated. After spending time myself in the building, I knew we could not go on the way we were, and with several suggestions from our Forward Committee, we determined to go all in, and merge the project with the church facility, combining a useful space for our church, and school.
There has been some question as to why we might renovate our current church building when it is not the best building to begin with, but it is where we worship now, and to leave it in the condition it is will be a detriment to our growth and impact within the community. If we invest a bit to make it beautiful and appealing, we increase our potential of welcoming new guests and members who are excited about what LSDA is doing, and want to be part of God's work in our church and area. As the building is in current condition, it is not something we are proud of, and to many who visit it is a turn-off, preventing them from visiting again, and joining as members.
During the business meeting on June 30th, I will share how all of this comes together, and our plan to make what we have beautiful, and plan for the new building to come soon, which will house our community center / gym / worship center, as well as a new K-8 (maybe even K-12) school. But we have to start here, and if we can be trusted to do well with what we have now, we can be trusted with more in the future.
I ask each church member to prayerfully consider how God is leading you / your family to give above and beyond your normal gifts to tithe and offerings. If He is leading, He will provide the increase. I have included the giving map below to show what gifts are needed presently, the ones with a strikethrough have already been received, all building to our stated goal of $175,000 to be raised for KSCS. The God who provides will give you the means to share in the campaign and success of our renovations.
At this time we have raised approximately $14,000 of the $25,000 needed to unlock the full $25,000 matching gift from our anonymous donor. $11,000 to go and we will have crossed the $50,000 threshold, on our way to $175,000!
Pastoral Search Update: I got word from Elder Carlos Craig that resumes were in the process of being reviewed, and will be submitted soon, to the church board for review, and prayerfully choosing which candidate(s) to interview for the permanent position of pastor at LSDA. I know God has the right person for this congregation, and with leading form the Holy Spirit, the right fit will be made.
I am appreciating the time spent at LSDA, and yes, honored many of you have asked if it could be a permanent pastoral-fit.. We have prayed diligently and feel impressed It is not a fit for my family as a whole, as I would not have my wife and children with me on Sabbaths, and they are integral to my ministry. Not only that, my first, and best, ministry is to my wife and children, they deserve it. I will faithfully lead and serve with all my energy until time to turn the keys over to the next pastor, knowing they are receiving an amazing congregation on fire for God! We have much to do over the next few months, so I request for you to join me in putting God's church first!
Until we see you in a couple weeks, you can, and I will, expect God to do miracles!
